Josef Matějka, Matějka Beef [ Regionální výrobce nebo produkt ]

Josef Matějka, Hovězí maso Matějka

Josef Matěka and his family farm on 140 hectares of arable land and 40 hectares of meadows. The farm in Barchov was founded by his father in 2004. They began raising Montbéliarde cattle, a French breed, and manage the herd in a closed-cycle system—meaning they raise the calves to slaughter weight using only feed grown on their own land.

The farm’s primary focus is milk production, but in recent years, they have also built their small butchery and started selling beef directly from the farm. The animals are slaughtered at the Francouz butchery in Skupice, and the meat is inspected by veterinary authorities. Josef Matějka has completed a certified course in slaughterhouse processing, which allows him to prepare the meat himself into 5 and 10 kilogram packages right on the farm.

The current contents of the meat packages and slaughter dates are published in advance on the Matějka Farm’s Facebook page, where customers can place their orders. The farm also offers offal, ensuring the entire animal is used. Before pickup, customers are informed when their order is ready.

Since the spring of 2025, the farm has been certified with the Iron Mountains – Regional Product label for its beef.

Milk is sold on weekdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on weekends from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Meat is processed two to three times a month. Visitors coming to buy milk or meat are welcome to see the cows and calves currently on the farm. A particular pride of the Matějka family is their Old Kladruber horses kept in the courtyard.
